Currency

The official currency is the Mexican Peso. An American Dollar is equivalent to about 10 Mexican Pesos, depending on the fluctuations of the market.

Passports and Visas

An up to date passport is required of all foreigners who enter Mexican territory.

Visa policy allows the entry of the citizens of the following countries without a visa

Citizens of the countries not mentioned before require a visa. This visa can be obtained through the Mexican embassy in their country of origin. Minors travelling by themselves require a notarized authorization from their parents.

How do I obtain a tourist visa to enter Mexico?

You must consult consular representation of Mexico in your country of origin to obtain information on the requirements and to undergo the necessary paperwork to obtain your visa. This requirements vary from country to country.

How to get There

Cancun International Airport, located at two hours flight from Mexico City, is the main access point to Riviera Maya. The coast roadway that connect the city of Cancun with Tulum, and the roadway that connect the cities of Tulum and Coba are the principal lines of communication by land. In Playa del Carmen there is ferry service to the Island of Cozumel.

There are many means of transportation in Riviera Maya. From mass transit like: Buses and "Combies", that travel through all zones of the Riviera, as well as Taxi service that you can find on the main tourist attractions.

Airport Information

Cancun airport is the second most important Mexican airport and the largest one in Latin America in terms of foreign passengers. It counts with 3 terminals and receives more than 11 million people a year. The airport is located 50 Km from Playa del Carmen. For more information.

Local Transportation

Riviera Maya has different means of transportation, from buses that travel all corners of Riviera Maya, to the taxies that can be found giving service in the main tourist attraction of the Riviera.

Telephone Service and the Internet

You can find telephone booths in all of Riviera Maya. These provide local and international service and can be paid by card.

Many of the providers of wireless phone service have international service. Please check with your provider to see if its service covers Mexico.
